1.Russell Simmons, Do You!
Ok - So I haven't even finished reading this book and I've already texted about a dozen people and told them to pick this up right away. Russell Simmons has been the main inspiration for my career since I was in the 10th grade. When I think of the impact he has made on our culture it humbles me to no end. I am in awe of the way he speaks his mind, demands nothing but the best of the people he surrounds himself with and himself, can admit his weakenesses and his over all dedication to making our planet a better one. I honestly don't think there would be a Kanye or a Jay or a Lil Wayne if it wasn't for this man, and I just would never want to live in a world where those men's music wasn't in my life. Sayin.

2. Woody Allen

I watched a few of his movies this week after Lizy told this hilarious story that involved an Annie Hall reference. I'm always attracted to awkward people, I just feel like if I were born in Brooklyn 30 or 40 years earlier I definitely would have hung out with this guy at some point. He's definitely a lil pervy and weird, but some of my favorite people in the world are too. And it's kinda amazing how he puts it all out there.

3. Friday Night Lights

This is TV on another level. Something truly embarrassing for me to admit to is that I have become slightly weird over high school football. It started off with Two A Days where I was totally in love with Alex, and thought about ways to maybe go down to Albama and try and get to know him a lil.
But this show has put more over the top. There is something really sexy about a person who is passionate about ANYTHING. There are just those people that are so totally moved and excited and driven and STOKED about something that when they talk about it they give off this energy that could keep you warm at night if you are paying attention. This show is full of those speeches that make you want to go out and change the world, or at the very least play your hardest to win the game. To play with heart. And holy eff, Tim Riggens. There are no words. (I'm kinda bummed cause in this season he's a senior so if the show gets picked up again he won't be on again. Maybe he'll return as a coach or something though.) If you hit that link though you can watch the whole season for free. That's kinda amazing.

Another show with those amazing speeches that make you want to change the world is The West Wing. Super amazing show. Both shows have writing and casts that are definitely beyond anything I thought TV was capable of. I really hope that Studio 60 comes back soon. I miss Aaron Sorkin being a part of my life.

4. Sunshine.
I just love it. Can't get enough of it. So much so that I am ending the recommendations here so I can go for a nice long run.

Eurostile font – it’s the only font I can type in. It’s that deep.

The Snake The Cross The Crown – Cotton Teeth. God damn, this very well may be the only thing I listen to all summer. It kinda makes me cry, but I sing and dance too. I’ve been accused of over-hyping things and this is definitely the album I’m going to be going off about until the new Armor record is finished.

Sunshine on my face makes me happy. The more I’m in the sun and running around and stuff, the happier I tend to get.

My hood. It rules, I can walk to everything I need, including mind numbing margaritas and Dodger Stadium.

(speaking of) Baseball Season – I’m going to games all over the country this spring/summer.

The $50 bottle of lotion I bought at the tanning salon. At first my stomach churned thinking about how dumb it was to spend so much money on lotion – but god damn, my tan is FIERCE and it makes me smell better then anything else on earth.


I’m pretty sure I could keep writing this list for forever and ever, but I’m gonna cut myself off now. I hope all of you are falling in love every day, it’s really the only way to live. Sometimes you get your heart broken, but the sweet ain’t as sweet without the bitter baby.

Anyway – I love Saves the Day probably more then any other band I have ever loved. I use to think it was At the Drive In – but I dunno – I listened to a bunch of acoustic Saves the Day songs today and pretty much felt summer fall around me and could smell what it was like to go out and t.p people’s houses in the summer or drive cross country and a million other feelings. I remember when I bought a brand new car and the first cd I listened to was Through Being Cool. That shit sticks with you.

firstly... my trip up the coastline was MEGA rad. hearst castle was awesome, i went on some wine tastings, i ate some food at a spot on the beach and then fell asleep by 730pm! no lies. it was a perfect day.

then last sunday was spent in this crazy loft watching armor getting photographed. then we scurried to my friend randy's to watch the last quarter of the big game and then hit up this spot Pho to eat dinner. i've taken several pictures of eating at pho. we heart that place.

monday... i cant really remember. i definitely went to pho again though.

tuesday... saw some band play on the top of some building. got to see some faces ive missed a lot.

wednesday... i have no idea. this week is getting a bit mushy in my mind.

yesterday i felt weird all day. i went running in the morning and there is this HUGE flight of stairs that goes up a mountain that ive been thinking about running up - so i give it a shot and i pretty much want to puke everywhere. later on i was driving to find this denim factory and i totes almost black out behind the wheel. after that i went home and slept for a few hours and took some cold medicine that made me SUPER chatty and weird.

then i watched greys. i screamed out loud when meredith went in the water. are you kidding me?!

also - how gnarly was that woman's face that karev found? eeeeeek.

today i went and ran some errands and met with this AMAZING graffiti artist that i think is going to be doing some work with clandestine - im so stoked about it - i cant even tell ya. we had sushi and he ordered this weird thing that i've never seen before - it was like a meatball but made with spicy tuna, seaweed and some crunchy substance. it was pretty tasty - no lie. also, the salad dressing on japanese garden salads has got to be the most amazing thing ever. anyway. after that i went home and read all these articles that i had marked to read and took notes and over all i feel like a smarter human.

one of the magazines i was going through was the Jane magazine with Mandy Moore on the cover. I'm sure a lot of you have already picked it up because it has 5 Questions with our favorite dude Peter Wentz. There is another article in it that i found really amazing though - it was on page 106 and it is the story of a woman that was abducted at age 12 and put in a rebel army in Uganda. If you have the magazine I strongly suggest you check it out and then hit up the invisible children website.

anyway ... tonight im going to party like i'm 19 and drink the very expensive bottle of red wine i bought. stoked city, usa. i've been super into taking polaroid pictures so i have to get my scanner to work so i can upload some from my trip.

my goal for the weekend is clean my room up. and to stop myself from going to the tanning salon. haha. what a mess.
